Why buy Pumpkin Pie Spice when you can make your own
It’s a quick post for you today but one I feel the timing is right for. It’s the fall and we all know what that means. Pumpkin everything!! But seriously, I do enjoy various pumpkin-flavoured bakes during this time of the year. Most recipes I use call for individual spices but occasionally, the recipe wants “pumpkin pie spice”.
I don’t buy pumpkin pie spice since I don’t use it that often and I’ve learned over the years that spices lose their potency after a while. So, if I find a recipe that needs pumpkin pie spice, I just make a batch up.
Feel free to double or triple these measurements if you require more.
Ingredients
1 1/2 Tbsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Tsp Ground Ginger
1 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
1/2 Tsp + 1/4 Tsp Ground All Spice
1/2 Tsp + 1/4 Tsp Ground Cloves
Add all the spices together in a jar. Place the lid on and shake away. Make sure you use an airtight container. It helps keep your spices fresh longer.
If you want a double batch, here are the measurements:
- 3 Tbsp Ground Cinnamon
- 2 Tsp Ground Ginger
- 2 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 1 1/2 Tsp Ground All Spice
- 1 1/2 Tsp Ground Cloves
You can use this to flavour any of your fall pumpkin baking such as muffins, cakes, cookies or scones. I have also used this mixture in smoothies and hot chocolate drinks.
