A beautiful to look at and touch recipe book.
A new recipe book
I have a confession to make. I’m obsessed with the British Baking Show. I really want to go visit the UK. I watch Escape to the Country and Midsomer Murder on a regular basis. When I saw this recipe book, A Royal Touch, written by Carolyn Robb, the personal chef to the Royal Family, it went into my shopping cart immediately. I’m not obsessed with the Royal family or anything to do with that, but I thought this would probably be a great recipe book since I’m sure they don’t eat horrible food.
This is a hard cover book with a slight texture and the pages are thick and feel wonderful. There are beautiful pictures with each recipe and a glossary in the back to help explain some of the ingredients. She also includes options for substitutions if you can’t find that specific ingredient.
There are pictures of various mementos from her time with the Royal family which although not necessary for baking anything in this book, gives the book a little more character.
There are sections for actual meals, appetizers, food options for little children and of course, desserts. Maybe one day I’ll tackle an appetizer recipe but for now, I’m all about treats! When I was looking through the meals section, some of the recipes seemed a bit fancy for my taste and probably not something I would make. But then again, I don’t cook so anything with too many ingredients is fancy to me.
The recipes are written with both weights and volume with the oven temperature in Farenhiet for those of us that use that. The steps are written out very clearly and I like the font type and size she has used. It’s not so fancy that you can’t read it.
My overall feeling…
My initial feeling with this book is excitement. Since I ordered this book online, I wasn’t able to look through all the recipes before purchasing it. That can be a problem and in the past, I have been disappointed with recipe books I have purchased on line. Not so with this book, The Royal Touch. I’m excited to try some of the dessert recipes and I believe I will be able to replicate the results.
